Quoi de Neuf?
A peak into the lastest from French club world - April/May 2012
Welcome back after your hard-earned vacances. If yours, like ours, were spent catching up on study rather than chilling, rest assured that the French Collective has a raft of events planned to keep your minds off the fact that there's still half a semester to go.

Volunteers Needed!On Campus Visit
Date: 31st May 2012 Venue: ANU Acton Campus Time: 10am – 4pm Event: Year 11/12 students from NSW Regional Partnership schools have been invited to visit the ANU campus for the day. The ANU requires students (either studying French or have French language skills) to assist with the visit. Students will be participating in a tour of the university and also a workshop on French Grammar. We need ANU students willing to participate on the day and to talk to the school students about their university experiences. Morning tea and lunch will be provided by ANU Student Equity. If people are interested in participating please contact ANU Student Equity via: [email protected] Élection PrésidentielleThe online media is abuzz with the results and analysis of the premier tour. In case you haven't heard, socialist candidate François Hollande came out in front with 28.6% of the vote, ahead of Carla Bruni's husband and incumbent conservative President (in that order) Nicolas Sarkozy who won 27.1% of the vote.
The surprise of the day was far right Front National candidate Marine Le Pen (daughter of notorious former FN leader Jean-Marie Le Pen) bagging 18% of the vote. Both Hollande and Sarkozy will proceed to the deuxième tour in which one of them will be elected Président. Articles on the interwebs, though, seem to be predicting France will be returning to a socialist government. No more compulsive reading of Carla+Nicolas news reports, then... |

Night Markets - Week 9
On Saturday 5 May, the Singapore Student's Association will be holding a 'Pasar Malam' night market from 6-9pm in the Lena Karmel 1st Floor Function Room. The French Collective is pleased to be participating and will be selling various French snacks (and hopefully drinks) alongside other societies selling their own cultural delights. What could be better than cheap culinary delights? At this stage, we are planning cheese & caramelised onion tarts, cheese platters w/ pâté and cornichons, madeleines and chocolate mousse! Trivia Night - Week 10 More details coming soon... |
Film of the Month
= Canadian prodigy Xavier Dolan's J'ai Tué Ma Mère
(I Killed My Mother).
Dolan wrote, directed and starred in the film and was only 20 when it was released. Wikipedia informs us that it received an 8 minute standing ovation at Cannes, and it was certainly well-deserved. Check out the preview here.
If you had the chance to catch our screening of the movie during week 8, you might be interested in also watching Xavier Dolan's other creation. It's called Les Amours Imaginaires (Heartbeats) and it was also very successful at Cannes.
